Use your Samsung Android phone as your Linux desktop now

{{postValue.id}}

Samsung makes it easy for you to connect your Galaxy S8 smartphone to an external display, mouse, and keyboard and use your phone like a desktop, a move that was not expected since the launch of the phone earlier this year. Up until now that’ s meant when you use the Samsung DeX docking station you can run Android apps in a desktop-like environment. But soon you’ ll be able to run a full-fledged Linux operating system.

According to Samsung, a new app called " Linux on Galaxy" is being developed, and this app will help the users to load a DeX-compatible Linux environment. It is quite a good news to all the Linux users who opt to use their Samsung galaxy phones as it can now function as a GNU/Linux desktop PC. Developers have been finding ways to load Linux distributions on Android phones for years. But Linux on Galaxy is different in a few ways.

First of all, it’ s an experience that’ s built and supported by the company that makes the phone. Second, it’ s designed to work with a DeX station, which means it’ s optimized for desktop usage. And third, today’ s top phones have processors powerful enough to run Windows 10, so they should be able to handle desktop operating systems like Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora.

Since Linux on Galaxy is labeled as a work-in-progress, Samsung isn’ t providing major details on its functionality and the Linux distribution/applications it can support. But you can sign up to get more information when it’ s available. It is also speculated that Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 could also be supported.
