autofs

autofs is a utility for mounting directories automatically whenever it is needed. Auto mounts are used for this purpose and are taken out after a period of inactivity. Autofs mounts the directories at arbitrary points in the file system hierarchy. Since autofs conserves the bandwidth it boosts the overall performance of the system when compared to static mounts kept through fstab.
