Say Hi to Ubuntu's New Disco Dingo (Ubuntu 19.04)

{{postValue.id}}

The good news from Canonical is that Ubuntu 19.04 "Disco Dingo" is now available for download, which leaves the doors open for infrastructure deployments, the developer desktop, IoT, and cloud to edge software distribution.

But, it is to be noted that the release is not long term and only for nine months.With regards to developer productivity, Canonical announced that multiple instances of a snap can now be installed for the purposes of testing or phased rollouts. For those who need to run the OS inside of VMWare, the experience should be improved.

Since the GNOME 3.32 desktop environment is shipped with it, higher frame rates, smoother startup animations, quicker icon load times, and reduced CPU and GPU load are some of the improved features that the Disco Dingo carries with it.

Additionally, open-VM -tool is installed automatically for a bi-directional clipboard, easy file sharing, and graceful power state management.The new version carries some more changes too, the Yaru theme from the previous cycle is now widened to include more third-party app icons, and secondly, and since Linux kernel is now changed to version 5.0, the hardware is also supported, thus minimizing the hardware issues which tormented the previous version.

Ways to update to the newer version: Get the new disc image from the Ubuntu website. Ubuntu 18.10 users can just refresh the Software Updater app, to get upgrade notification. Ubuntu 18.10 can request for 'Notify me' for a newer version from the 'Software & Updates' option.
