Mailing error leads to confusion among the Inmediata Health Group’s breached patients

{{postValue.id}}

Inmediata Health Group has come under fire for improper handling of its breach notification process. The firm has been blamed for sending multiple letters addressed to different victims to other patients.

Inmediata Health Group was in trouble recently due to improper handling of its breach notification process. It was accused of sending multiple letters addressed to different victims to other patients.

The breach was discovered in January 2019 by the healthcare firm's officials and it was found to have impacted 1,565,338 patients. The incident reportedly occurred due to its misconfigured website. As soon as the breach was discovered, the webpage was deactivated followed by a thorough investigation.

It was found out through the investigation that the personal data of several patients were compromised. The compromised data included names, addresses, dates of birth, gender and medical claims. For some, Social Security numbers were also potentially breached.

In order to alert their patients about the said breach, healthcare started sending explanatory emails, but the health administrator made severe mailing mistakes during the process.

The patients reported that they received multiple letters, some of which were addressed to other patients. One victim complained of receiving two letters - one addressed to them and the other addressed to another patient.

In one other instance, a victim received five letters, two of which were addressed to them, but the other three were meant for three different people.

The healthcare firm is also said to have not responded on time when the patients responded upon receiving numerous emails.
