To install VLC Media Player in OpenSUSE

VLC is an open source media player used for Linux-based systems. It supports several audio and video compression methods and multimedia files. Some of the supported file formats are DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols. This article explains the installation of VLC media player in OpenSUSE.


Installation of VLC Media Player

Download and add the required repository with the following command.

linuxhelp:/home/user1 # zypper ar http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/12.3 VLC
Adding repository ' VLC'  ..................................................[done]
Repository ' VLC'  successfully added
Enabled: Yes
Autorefresh: No
GPG check: Yes
URI: http://download.videolan.org/pub/vlc/SuSE/12.3

Here you need to modify or auto-refresh the added repository.

linuxhelp:/home/user1 # zypper mr -r VLC
Autorefresh has been enabled for repository ' VLC' .

Its time to run the following command to install the VLC media player.

linuxhelp:/home/user1 # zypper in vlc
