How to install Microsoft Visual studio code 1.13.1 on Ubuntu 16.04

Visual Studio Code is a free, code-optimized editor based on electron. It supports features such as navigation, syntax highlighting, bracket matching, auto indentation, intellisense support and snippets. It also supports various languages and has integrated terminal with ability to handle multiple instances. This article will explain the installation of Visual Studio Code 1.13.1 on Ubuntu 16.04.

Installation procedure

To start the installation procedure, install the gdebi package in the target system by executing the following command.

root@linuxhelp1:~# apt-get install gdebi

The gdebi package is installed in the target system. Download the visual studio code package using the wget command and execute it.

The visual studio code is downloaded in the target system. Install the visual studio code package using gdebi and execute it.

Now the Visual Studio Code icon is installed and to run the application, type the package name in the Ubuntu dashboard, click on the icon to run the application.
