How to install gImageReader in Ubuntu

To install gImageReader in Ubuntu

gImageReader is a free tool for OCR scanning used in Linux systems. OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. It allows the users to scan various file formats including JPEG, PNG, TIFF, GIFF or PDF files. Users can also scan the files, which is directly imported from the scanner and recognize the characters. Installation of gImageReader in Ubuntu is explained in this article.

Installation of gImageReader

Before installing gImageReader, add the repositories with the following command.

root@linuxhelp1:~# add-apt-repository ppa:sandromani/gimagereader
 A graphical GTK frontend to tesseract-ocr
 More info: https://launchpad.net/~sandromani/+archive/ubuntu/gimagereader
Press [ENTER] to continue or ctrl-c to cancel adding it

Now open the unity dash and type gimagereader in the seaarch bar. Then click on the icon.

The gimagreader software will display as shown below. Here you can work with various image format.

To remove gImagReader

Run the below command to uninstall the gImageReader software.

root@linuxhelp1:~# apt-get remove gimagereader -y
