To install Digikam 5.6.0 on Ubuntu 18.04

DigiKam 5.6.0 is an advanced digital photo management application for KDE Linux, which makes importing as well as organizing digital photos a “snap”. The photos are organized in albums which can be sorted chronologically, by folder layout or by custom collections. In this tutorial, we will cover the installation of Digikam on Ubuntu 18.04.

Installation

Update the system repository using the following command

root@linuxhelp1:~# apt-get update
Hit:1 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-security InRelease
Hit:2 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic InRelease
Hit:3 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-updates InRelease
Hit:4 http://in.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic-backports InRelease
Reading package lists... Done   

Install the Digikam package using the following command

root@linuxhelp1:~# apt-get install digikam -y
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree       
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  apache2-bin apache2-data apache2-utils libapr1 libaprutil1 libaprutil1-dbd-sqlite3
  libaprutil1-ldap
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.

Once Installation is done you can access the Digikam from the Menu as shown here

You will see the welcome page of Digikam

Configure the location setup as follow
location_setup

Configure the Database setup
database_setup

Configure the Raw file setup
raw_file_setup

Configure the metadata storage setup as shown below
metadata_storage_setup

Configure the Preview setup
preview_setup

Configure the Open file setup as follow
open_file_setup

Choose the contextual tooltips
contextual_toolkit

You will see the scan your location
scan_file_location

After the configuration, you will see the following page as shown below
initialize_digikam

Digikam application
open_digikam

The version of Digikam can be found in Help-> About
digikam_version
