To install Blender 2.79 on Ubuntu 16.04

Blender is a professional, free and open-source 3D computer graphics software toolset used for creating animated films, visual effects, art, 3D printed models, interactive 3D applications and video games. Blender' s features include 3D modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, raster graphics editing, rigging and skinning, fluid and smoke simulation, particle simulation, soft body simulation, sculpting, animating, match moving, camera tracking, rendering, motion graphics, video editing and compositing. This tutorial covers the ground on the installation procedure of Blender 2.79 on Ubuntu 16.04.

Installation procedure

To proceed with the installation procedure, add the repository by running the following command.

root@linuxhelp1:~# add-apt-repository ppa:thomas-schiex/blender
 A revival of Irie Shinsuke' s PPA: Blender is compiled with all bells and whistles (OSL, OpenCollada, OpenVDB, OSD, jemalloc &  precompiled CUDA kernels) and adapted to Ubuntu (python, ffmpeg, ilmbase, openEXR, Ubuntu packages are used directly to avoid redundancy).

After adding the required repositories, update the repository by running the apt-get update command.

The target system is updated with the required repositories. Next install the blender application by executing the following command.

The application has been installed in the system. Type the application name in the Ubuntu dashboard and click on the icon to run the application.
