How to install aptana studio 3 in Ubuntu

To install aptana studio 3 in Ubuntu 16.04

Aptana Studio is a tools in the free Web editor market. Its the main function in Ajax development environment. Installation of Aptana studio 3 in Ubuntu is explained in this article.

To install aptana studio

Before installing Aptana, add java repo file by using “ add-apt-repository” command.

root@linuxhelp:~# add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/java
 Oracle Java (JDK) Installer (automatically downloads and installs Oracle JDK7 / JDK8 / JDK9). There are no actual Java files in this PPA.

Important!!! For now, you should continue to use Java 8 because Oracle Java 9 is available as an early access release (it should be released in 2016)! You should only use Oracle Java 9 if you explicitly need it, because it may contain bugs and it might not include the latest security patches! Also, some Java options were removed in JDK9, so you may encounter issues with various Java apps. Install java by using the following command.

Open browser and go aptana studio' s official site. And copy aptana studio download link.

Open the terminal and download aptana studio using “ wget” command.

Next unzip the downloaded file.

root@linuxhelp:~# unzip Aptana_Studio_3_Setup_Linux_x86_64_3.6.1.zip

List the files using “ ls” command.

root@linuxhelp:~# ls
Aptana_Studio_3                               vst-install.sh
Aptana_Studio_3_Setup_Linux_x86_64_3.6.1.zip  vst-install-ubuntu.sh

Set owner permission as root to ” Aptana_Studio_3” directory.

root@linuxhelp:~# chown -R root:root Aptana_Studio_3/

Next set execute permission to “ Aptana_Studio_3” directory using “ chmod” command.

root@linuxhelp:~# chmod -R 777 Aptana_Studio_3

Move the “ Aptana_Studio_3” directory to “ /usr/local/bin” .

root@linuxhelp:~# mv Aptana_Studio_3 /usr/local/bin/

Change the directory by using the following command.

root@linuxhelp:~# cd /usr/local/bin/

Open and edit the “ ~/.bashrc” file.

root@linuxhelp:/usr/local/bin# nano ~/.bashrc

Add aptana studio path and save it.

PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/bin/Aptana_Studio_3

Create softlink for “ Aptana_Studio_3/AptanaStudio3” as follows.

root@linuxhelp:/usr/local/bin# ln -s Aptana_Studio_3/AptanaStudio3 aptana

Next change your directory.

root@linuxhelp:/usr/local/bin# cd

Type “ aptana” and run it.

root@linuxhelp:~# aptana

Set the path for aptana and click “ ok”

Aptana is ready to use now.
