How to Configure NFS Server in FreeNas

To configure NFS - Server on FreeNAS

Introduction :

FreeNAS is an open source software that can be downloaded at no cost from freenas.org, It was created in 2005 and is based on the open source FreeBSD. FreeNAS provides various sharing services like nfs, smb, afp, iscsi NFS used for sharing files between linux operating systems

Installation steps:

Step 1: Enter the freeNAS IP in browser and Login in to the Freenas server. snap1

Step 2: Create storage pools for NFS configuration, click storage snap2

**Step 3: click pools and click add ** snap4

Step 4: click create pole snap5

Step 5: It will not display the primary disk. So, add additional disk then Select disks as per your recruitments then Click the AERO mark to move selected disks to data Vdevs snap6

Step 6: click create snap7

Step 7: click create pool snap8

Step 8: create datasets for sharing snap9

Step 9 : Enter required credentials and click save snap10

Now dataset was created snap11

Step 10 : now we need to create a share . Click sharing snap13

Step 11 : click UNIX share then click add option snap14

Step 12 : Enter Required credentials click save snap15

Step 13 : Its asking for to start service . click enable snap16

Step 14 : verify the service is enabled by clicking services option snap17

Step 15 : check the available shares from freeNAS server by typing freeNAS ip.

[root@localhost /]# showmount -e 192.168.6.133
Export list for 192.168.6.133:
/mnt/NFS (everyone)

Step 16 : mount the shares into local machine

[root@localhost /]# mount -t nfs 192.168.6.133:/mnt/NFS /client_access/

Step 17 : verify the mounting by typing mount command

[root@localhost /]# mount
/dev/sda1 on /boot type ext3 (rw,relatime)
sunrpc on /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs type rpc_pipefs (rw,relatime)
tmpfs on /run/user/1000 type tmpfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,size=173896k,mode=700,uid=1000,gid=1000)
gvfsd-fuse on /run/user/1000/gvfs type fuse.gvfsd-fuse (rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,user_id=1000,group_id=1000)
/dev/sr0 on /run/media/suthakar/OL-8-4-0-BaseOS-x86_64 type iso9660 (ro,nosuid,nodev,relatime,nojoliet,check=s,map=n,blocksize=2048,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmode=500,fmode=400,uhelper=udisks2)
nfsd on /proc/fs/nfsd type nfsd (rw,relatime)
192.168.6.133:/mnt/NFS on /client_access type nfs (rw,relatime,vers=3,rsize=131072,wsize=131072,namlen=255,hard,proto=tcp,timeo=600,retrans=2,sec=sys,mountaddr=192.168.6.133,mountvers=3,mountport=1020,mountproto=udp,local_lock=none,addr=192.168.6.133)

Step 18: move to the client_acces directory

[root@localhost /]# cd /client_access/

Step 19 : create files under this directory

 [root@localhost client_access]# touch abc{1..10}
```

**Step 20 : list the available contents.**
```
[root@localhost client_access]# ls
abc1  abc10  abc2  abc3  abc4  abc5  abc6  abc7  abc8  abc9  Developers
```

**step 21: goto the freeNAS shell**

**Step 22 : check the contents are synchronised**
